Hexen
II: Portal of Praevus began production in late 1997, following the successful
launch of the original game. The team decided to make the expansion much more
than a pack of new levels for Hexen II. The goal was to make Portal of Praevus
as close to an entirely new game as possible for buyers of the original Hexen
II. To do this, the team made two new hubs, 15 new single player levels, three
new enemies and added another character class...the Demoness.
Hexen II owners could play through Portal of Praevus as the former minion of Eidolon
or as any of the original four characters. Hexen II: Portal of Praevus merged
seamlessly with the Hexen II world and offered a wealth of new options and opportunities
for mayhem in both single player and multiplayer gaming.
Hailed as one of the best mission packs ever, Hexen II: Portal of Praevus helped
solidify Raven Software's ongoing relationship with Activision Inc, who published
the game in 1998.
Praise For Hexen II: Portal of Praevus:
With its many gameplay improvements and its impressive level design, Portal
of Praevus glides easily into the upper echelon of first-person action games.
This is clearly a must-have for Hexen II fans, and even critics of the original
game should find the new features, creatures, levels, and weapons suitably impressive.
-GameSpot
4 ˝ Stars - Rest assured Portal of Praevus is a first-rate, professionally
produced title. Like its predecessor, it offers intense gameplay within a richly
interactive and graphically sumptuous environment.
- Adrenaline Vault
90% - If you liked Hexen II, this add-on is well worth the money.
- Electric Games
It is not often that an add-on pack measures up to my standards of truly adding
to the original game, but Portal of Praevus does this very well.
- GameZilla
This is a must-have for Hexen II owners, and makes a compelling reason to get
Hexen II if you don't have it already.
