Cosmos
on Hexen II and Heretic II
Posted

In a thread on Raven's
Voyager forums, Mike
"Cosmos" Gummelt, Raven programmer and creator of the original
Hexenworld Siege, mentions Hexen II and Heretic II:
HeXen
II's puzzles did tend to get kind of hard (especially
Egypt). The mission pack was a lot of fun to work on and concentrated
much more on action than puzzles. And it still has (in my
view) one of the best snow models in a FPS ever.... the snow
flurries around, each flake is different, it can fly through
windows, stick to surfaces and melt! Woo! (can you tell who
programmed the snow?)
Heretic II is the one Raven game I still load up and play
just because it was so much fun. The control and combat is
so good it makes me feel like an action film star- and ass-kicking
acrobatic hero who slices enemies to pieces or makes them
explode into flaming gibs!

In Need Of Some Generosity

Ever since moving over to HeXenWorld.net, there has been
a spark in the community. The servers are beginning to draw
again, old players are making their surprizing appearances to
the forums, and people are beginning
to show some interest and asking questions about how they can
help. Well, there is an answer! If you have a static IP address,
(one that is always the same), and have about 60K of RAM to
spare, you are eligible to run a master server for HeXenWorld!
The master server program was programmed by Kor
Skarn and can stay minimized in Windows and run on a low
bandwidth of 14.4 bps! The main thing is that the IP remains
the same. If there is someone out there, that can run one of
these master servers for us, it would be highly appreciated!
If you have any questions or perhaps you're interested in giving
us a hand, please contact Kor
Skarn or ACE.
Heretic/Hexen Test by utopia
[9:12 pm PT - Jul. 4, 2000]
This is a bit outdated, seeing as how it was originally posted
May 6th, but well worth the test of knowledge. Go take the 3D
ActionPlanet Heretic/Hexen Gaming Test.

Planetquake has this
interesting editorial
which discusses how one person can have the ability to make
a mod on their own. I thought that it would apply to us since
both the Heretic II & Hexen II communities have both had 1,
2, or 3 person mod teams. Check it out here.

HexenWorld Server Official!!!

The Windy City will now be supporting HeXenWorld! I have
plans to run a master server and gaming server for HeXenWorld.
Expect to see better pings due to a less congested network,
and a better location right in the center of the United States!
The server's bandwidth will be running on T1 speed (1.5MB) and
a Local Area Network of 2 computers! Stay tuned to find out
when the server's opening date will be.
HexenWorld.net Java Chat by utopia
[7:46 pm PT - Jul. 1, 2000]
In case you're feeling like heading into a chat without downloading,
installing, etc. with mIRC or Pirch, we've set up a fine Java-based
chat room that is on the other sites in our network. You can
get to that here,
or refer to it in the links to the left. It's very easy to use
and promises a good time.
