An Interview With RavenHurst For HeXen II Mod Author, Travis (Boog) Tokaruk by ùtøpiâ.

ùtøpiâ: What inspired you to make RavenHurst?

Boog: What really inspired me to make RavenHurst has to be the Hexen series, there are a lot of other games, movies, etc that inspired me but Hexen 1 and 2 I believe are the most influential.

ùtøpiâ: What aspect would you say was the most influential? The immersiveness of the environments, or something else?

Boog: The sense of immersion was a big part of it. While playing Hexen you could almost believe you were on a different world. Everything in the game, the blowing leaves, thunder and the creepy levels, when put together really drew you in, making you want to explore this strange new realm. The Serpent Rider Series have been the only games that really did that for me.

ùtøpiâ: What exactly is RavenHurst? We know it's a mission pack but what will the final release be like?

Boog: Ravenhurst was a idea that was brewing in my head ever since I got my first mail order level editor for Hexen, Deep. However by the time It came in the mail
HeXen II was already out, which I bought as soon as I saw it :-). I ditched Deep and moved on to HeXen II. Ravenhurst went through many different versions and levels as I tested out ideas and design with the Quake engine. Many levels have been scrapped or reworked since , untill Ravenhurst is what it is now. What I want to make with Ravenhurst is a driving singleplayer experience in the Hexen world. I want it to be moody, full of action and more story driven than the series.
What you can expect in the full version are many levels, although it is hard to be sure at the amount there will definitively be more than 7. They will take place under, in and around the city of Ravenhurst, which after the falls of Eidolon and Praveus, has been taken over by a large force of their remaining followers. There will be puzzles, though they will make sense, action and of course a more involving storyline in the game.

ùtøpiâ: Great! Are there any new monsters, classes or anything of the sort to be expected?

Boog: With the current state of the team on the coding front it's hard to say how much new stuff will be in Ravenhurst when it's out. There are some plans on having a few new and improved versions of the
HeXen II monsters, though nothing as great as a undertaking as a new player class. There are Npc's (Non player characters) who can help you by giving you information and maybe, possibly, lending a hand in a fight, though these too are being worked on currently as well.

ùtøpiâ: Are you adding weapons or sticking to the regulars?

Boog: No, there will not be any new weapons, it would undoubtably be cool but we don't have the resources or time.

ùtøpiâ: Could you perhaps give away some of the locations you'll we playing through?

Boog: I'm not sure how much I want to give away because half the fun of a good game is the surprise and exploration. So you'll just have to wait until the release to find out ;-)

ùtøpiâ: D'oh!! :) Well when would the full release be [a guess of course]?

Boog: Hmm well I'll take a guess and say that the next release might be around the month of May. It's really hard to tell how much will get done, becuase like a lot of people there are other things that take up your time, friends, school. work. So saying that, I have no real, concrete idea when, just "When it's done!" ;-)

ùtøpiâ: Always a good answer! Thanks for your time :)

Boog: No problem, now I must get back to mapping!
